Fraudulent SMS Text Messaging

KOREK Telecom: January, 2011-As the Telecom Industry is growing at a rapid pace, innovations and new offers are presented in the market to attract and retain customers. However, sometimes this aggressive marketing is manipulated and exploited by various means.
KOREK Telecom has taken an initiative to raise the awareness of fraudulent SMS messages that are resulting in a loss of credit balance or fraudulence activities to unaware customers.

KOREK Telecom wants mobile customers to be careful when receiving trick/unsolicited calls and SMSs informing the customer that he/she has won a cash prize and to retrieve the prize; he has to inform the calling party of the hidden numbers on the prepaid scratch cards, or make international call, etc... As a result, the customer may lose the value of their scratch card or other credit from his balance. If a customer receives such calls/SMSs, the customer should immediately contact customers care to verify the information.

 

Recent launches of credit transfer facilities by mobile companies have resulted in the spread of spam messages and calls inviting them to text a specific message doubling their balance or winning cash prizes by sending these messages. Customers have lost their balance by responding to such messages. There is no such promotion taking place right now, and if such promotion does take place KOREK will ensure to advertise it in different media channels and not only by SMS . Customers should be aware that dialing these numbers will not win them any lucky draw, but is only used for stealing their balance.

"Lucky draw campaigns and other promotions by mobile companies are widely covered/ announced through media campaigns and not only through SMS. Korek is also advising the customers to ignore messages received from unknown sources as this can result in loss of balance to unaware customers."
